AI Use Policy

The Latin American Journal of Agricultural Sciences is firmly committed to academic integrity, methodological transparency, and scientific rigor in all submissions received for evaluation. In alignment with international editorial standards, the following policies are established for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools during the preparation and submission of manuscripts:

Permitted Use of AI Tools

  • Authors may use AI tools only as support for complementary tasks such as:
  • Grammar and spelling correction.
  • Rephrasing sentences to improve clarity.
  • Preliminary organization of ideas or drafting outlines.
  • Data processing (e.g., statistical analysis through specialized software), provided it is clearly described in the methodology section.

Under no circumstances should AI replace the intellectual authorship, critical analysis, or conceptual development that are the sole responsibility of the researchers.

Maximum AI-Generated Content Limit

To preserve academic originality, manuscripts must not exceed 20% AI-generated content.

All submissions will undergo specialized verification tools that detect AI-generated text. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be returned to the authors for revision or may be rejected during the initial editorial screening.

Mandatory AI Use Disclosure

Any use of AI tools must be explicitly disclosed by the authors in a “Declaration of Artificial Intelligence Use” section, placed before the references. This declaration must specify:

  • The tool used (ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, etc.).
  • The purpose of its use.
  • The scope of the assistance received (e.g., grammar editing, preliminary summary, statistical analysis, among others).

Omission or falsification of this information will be considered a serious ethical violation and may lead to manuscript rejection or subsequent retraction.

Full Responsibility of the Authors

Authors are fully responsible for:

  • The accuracy and reliability of the content presented.
  • The interpretation of the results.
  • The methodological and conceptual soundness of the article.

The use of AI does not exempt authors from complying with the ethical standards established by the journal nor from adhering to good scientific research practices.

Additional Restrictions

  • AI cannot be used to generate data, manipulate results, or create fabricated figures.
  • Articles whose theoretical framework, discussion, or conclusions are primarily generated by AI will not be accepted.
  • AI must not be used to create references, cite non-existent sources, or generate academic content without verifiable scientific basis.

Editorial and Ethical Review

The Editorial Committee will apply controls during all stages of the evaluation process to guarantee compliance with these policies. If improper or fraudulent use of AI is detected, the manuscript will be immediately withheld and the authors will be informed.
