Dossier “Luhmann Today: Philosophy, Politics and Law”
PRIUS: Revista de Derecho y Ciencia Política / Journal of Law and Political Science invites submissions for a new issue structured around the thematic dossier “Luhmann Today: Philosophy, Politics and Law”, together with a miscellaneous section open to contributions on topics within the journal’s field.
The dossier seeks to bring together research that examines the contemporary relevance, transformations and reinterpretations of Luhmannian theory. Contributions may engage critically with Niklas Luhmann’s work or explore its uses, appropriations, limits and analytical productivity in current debates.
Several decades after the formulation of his main theoretical contributions, Luhmann’s work remains a central reference for contemporary social theory. His thought offers relevant conceptual tools for analysing the complexity of modern societies, functional differentiation, forms of communication, regimes of observation and the ways in which different social systems produce their own operations, boundaries and rationalities.
Submissions may address, among others, the following topics:
- Philosophy of Law in Luhmann
- Systems theory and contemporary social theory
- Complexity, contingency and meaning
- Communication and the public sphere
- Functional differentiation and modernity
- Risk, uncertainty and crisis
- Law, politics and administration
- Luhmann’s conception of power
- Reception, critique and reformulation of Luhmann’s work
This list is indicative and does not exclude other approaches related to the general theme of the dossier.
Alongside the dossier, PRIUS will also receive articles for its miscellaneous section, which is open to original research not necessarily connected to the monographic theme, provided that it falls within the thematic, scientific and editorial scope of the journal.
The journal publishes in an online first format. Accepted manuscripts, once the peer review, editing and layout processes have been completed, will be published in their final version before the full issue is closed. Articles will subsequently be formally integrated into the corresponding volume and issue.
Submission deadline for the dossier: 15 November 2026
Accepted languages: English, Spanish and Portuguese
Editorial style: APA 7
Peer review system: double-blind peer review
Submission platform: OJS
