Types of academic documents
At the Revista Arbitrada de Educación Contemporánea, we accept different types of academic documents that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of contemporary education. The main types of documents we consider are review articles, original articles, and essays.
Review Articles: Review articles offer a comprehensive and critical view of a specific topic in the field of contemporary education. These documents synthesize and analyze existing research, providing a systematic assessment of the current literature. Review articles are essential to summarize the current state of knowledge, identify gaps and challenges, and propose new research directions.
Format of a Review Article
- Title: The title of the article must be descriptive, concise and capture the reader's attention. It should clearly reflect the topic and scope of the review.
- Abstract: The abstract should provide a clear and concise summary of the review article. It should include a description of the topic, the purpose of the review, the methods used, and the main conclusions or findings. Maximum of 200 words and 5 keywords
- Introduction: The introduction should establish the context and importance of the subject of the review. You should present the objective of the review and highlight the specific research questions or objectives that will be addressed.
- Development: The body of the article should provide a systematic and critical review of the existing literature on the subject. The authors must organize the content logically and present the different perspectives, theories, findings and relevant debates in the field of contemporary education.
- Methods: If applicable, a methods section should be included that describes the approach used to select and analyze the studies included in the review. This may include inclusion and exclusion criteria, search strategies, data sources, and methods of analysis.
- Results: In this section, the authors should present the results of the review, summarizing and synthesizing the information obtained from the reviewed studies. Tables, graphs or diagrams can be used to present the findings in a clear and visually appealing way.
- Discussion: The discussion should interpret the results of the review and provide a synthesis of the most relevant findings. Authors should highlight the implications of the results, identify limitations of the review, and propose future directions for research.
- Conclusions: In this section, the authors should summarize the main conclusions of the review and highlight their relevance to the field of contemporary education. Practical or theoretical recommendations based on the findings may be included.
- References: Authors must include a list of complete bibliographical references at the end of the article, following an appropriate citation format, such as APA, MLA, or another style accepted in the field.
Original Articles: Original articles present novel and significant research in the field of contemporary education. These papers describe empirical, experimental, theoretical, or applied studies that bring new insights and perspectives to the field. Original articles must have a solid theoretical foundation, a rigorous methodology, clear results, and a substantial discussion that highlights the relevance of the findings.
Original Article Format
- Title: The title of the article must be descriptive, concise, and accurately represent the content and scope of the study, including the statistical part if applicable.
- Summary - Abstract: The abstract must provide a concise summary of the study, including the objective of the research, the statistical methods used, the main findings, the conclusions, maximum of 200 words and 5 keywords. You should also mention any statistically significant results, if any.
- Introduction: The introduction should establish the context of the study, including a review of the relevant literature and the rationale for the research. It must clearly present the objectives or research questions of the study, as well as the importance of the statistical part in the field of contemporary education.
- Methodology: In this section, the authors should describe in detail the study design, including the population or sample, the data collection procedures, as well as the statistical methods used to analyze the data. They must provide enough information so that other researchers can replicate the study and understand the statistical part of the analysis.
- Results: In this section, the study findings are presented, both descriptive and statistical, in a clear and concise manner. Authors should present statistical results appropriately, using measures of central tendency, standard deviation, significance tests, confidence intervals, or other relevant statistical methods. Additionally, tables, graphs, or other visual elements can be used to effectively represent the results.
- Discussion: The discussion should interpret the statistical results and contextualize them in relation to the existing literature. Authors should analyze and explain the findings, highlight the practical or theoretical implications of the statistical results, and discuss the limitations of the study in relation to the statistical analysis performed.
- Conclusions: In this section, the authors should clearly and concisely summarize the main conclusions of the study, based on the statistical results and the discussion. The conclusions should respond to the research objectives or questions raised in the introduction and highlight the contribution of the study, both from a general and statistical perspective.
- References: Authors must include a list of complete bibliographical references at the end of the article, following an appropriate citation format, such as APA, MLA, or another style accepted in the field.
Essays: Essays are academic documents that allow authors to present ideas, opinions, or critical reflections on relevant issues in contemporary education. These documents offer a personal and argued perspective, supported by the academic literature and the author's experience. Essays can explore new theories, raise critical questions, or present innovative proposals for the field of study.
Essay Format
- Title: The title of the essay must be descriptive, concise and capture the attention of the reader. It should clearly reflect the topic and scope of the essay.
- Abstract: In the case of trials, an abstract is usually not included. However, some essays may require a short introductory paragraph outlining the topic and purpose of the essay.
- Introduction: The introduction should establish the context of the essay and present the topic clearly and concisely. You should also provide an overview of the purpose of the essay and state the main questions or themes that will be addressed.
- Development: In this section, the authors must present their ideas, arguments and reflections on the topic of the essay. They must organize the content in a logical and coherent way, using paragraphs and sections to structure and develop the ideas presented.
- Analysis and discussion: Authors can use this section to analyze and discuss in depth the themes and arguments presented in the essay. They may support their claims with relevant examples, evidence, or references to the academic literature.
- Conclusions: In this section, the authors should summarize the main conclusions of the essay and highlight their relevance to the field of contemporary education. They may offer recommendations or suggestions for future research or practice.
- References: If bibliographical references are used, authors must include a list of these at the end of the essay, following an appropriate citation format, such as APA, MLA, or another style accepted in the field.
