Sector industrial y emisiones de PM2.5 en las principales economías del mundo

Resumen

La contaminación del aire es uno de los problemas que más aqueja a la población de las zonas urbanas y de los países más industrializados. Las fuentes de emisiones PM2.5 provienen principalmente de la industria. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue determinar el efecto que tiene el tamaño del sector industrial en las emisiones de PM2.5 en las principales economías mundiales, mediante una regresión con datos de panel, con el método de mínimos cuadrados generalizados con errores estándar robustos. El panel incluyó 11 países: Alemania, Brasil, Canadá, China, Estados Unidos, Rusia, Francia, India, Japón, Inglaterra y México; y un periodo de 14 años:1998 a 2011. Los resultados sugieren que un aumento del 1% en la tasa de crecimiento del sector industrial se asocia con un 0.887% de cambio en el nivel de contaminación del aire medido por PM2.5. La descarbonización, la reducción de la dependencia de combustibles fósiles y la transición hacia el consumo de energías limpias, pude reducir las emisiones en la industria y los efectos negativos en la salud de la población, del medio ambiente y de la economía.
