This article analyzes the relationship between the use of generative artificial intelligence tools ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot on the quality of university students' academic work. A quantitative analysis was used to study the use of these technologies, which impacts aspects such as creativity, analytical depth, coherence, and methodological rigor of academic writing. The result was a positive to moderate relationship between the Guided Use of Generative AI and improved structure and coherence of work (r=0.67, p<0.001), although significant challenges related to technological dependence and critical reasoning were also identified. The study determines that the incorporation of these tools in academic environments can be beneficial when implemented with clear guidelines and appropriate pedagogical support, outlining a framework for equitable use that develops student skills without compromising academic honesty.
