This article evaluates the role that university social responsibility (RSU) has in community commitment and development, in the context of the University Law that emphasizes its importance in higher education. The purpose is to carry out an exploration of the literature to reflect on how RSU positively impacts society through the knowledge and actions of universities. The methodology is based on the documentary analysis of studies and regulations on RSU, which made it possible to identify the function of the university as a representative of social change. The results show that RSU favors social development by promoting initiatives in the areas of management, teaching, research and extension, aligning these processes to strengthen educational quality and its contribution to the environment. It is concluded that the implementation of RSU should be a primary objective of universities, so that its impact transcends society and reinforces its presence and relevance in it. This work highlights the importance of RSU as a key element in the university mission and in institutional quality management.
